Health & Safety
Citrus oils have a long history of safe use for food and beverage flavoring, perfumery and consumer products as cleaning agents.
Citrus oils occur naturally in citrus peel and are generally regarded as safe (GRAS) by the Food and Drug Administration. See 21CFR Parts 182.20 and 182.60.
d-Limonene is a naturally occurring terpene found in high concentrations in citrus, and certain spices and vegetables.
It is probably true that all green plants in nature produce some d-limonene through their biochemical metabolism. (Braddock 1999)
The predominate natural source for citrus oils is citrus peel.
Citrus oils are biobased extractions from citrus that are purified by physical separation. They are 100% natural.
Limonene is quickly distributed between different organs in the (human) body and easily metabolized. (WHO 1998).
